Material managers looking for high performance for outdoor footwear, daypacks and apparel applications will find lots of bio-based options at the DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products (DTL) booth at this year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer show, Aug 3-6, 2016. Witness Susterra® propanediol’ s innovative bio-based performance options ranging from thermoplastic urethane outsoles and waterproof films, to synthetic leather and hot-melt adhesives at the DTL Susterra® brand stand 155-301 in Salt Lake City, Utah. “Susterra® propanediol is manufactured through a proprietary fermentation process using plant-derived glucose instead of petroleum‐based feedstocks,” explained Steve Hurff, vice president of marketing and sales, for DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. “When we started the joint venture we positioned the product as ‘green,’ however over the past decade, we have learned that what it really offers is bio-based performance in terms of abrasion resistance, low temperature flexibly, faster molding times and elasticity.” “When you go on a hike one of the most important pieces of equipment is your boots. You do not want your feet to get wet and you also do not want them to sweat. You want the outsole to flex as you step on rocks so your feet do not hurt. And you do not want your boots to fall apart,” states Laurie Kronenberg, global marketing director, for DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. “What I love about our product is that is offers solutions for every part of the boot from the adhesive, to the leather and down to the outsole. It offers performance from the ground up.”
